Orly Lindenbaum: "You won't find anyone who loves Scharf's Ateret Avot more than me. They treat my father like a friend. Mr. and Mrs. Scharf are wonderful. They have helped me so many times. Anytime I have a question, they are the first people I'll call. It's like calling a good friend. They give advice from the heart.
When my daughters walk into the room his face lights up. They adore him and they kind of are his whole life.
My parents really needed someone to give the love that this place was able to give them." Close article

Chaim Fuhrer: "It's an immaculate facility... And there's quite a bit of programming that would keep my father intellectually stimulated. My father is known as both a scholar and a person who is very interested in current events. Alan Magil, the current events moderator, has frequently quoted my father in his sessions.
Similarly, my father's spiritually intellectual needs are met by the daily Daf Yomi class.
A number of times we tried to visit him during the time when the Daf Yomi was scheduled... He said, "No! It's time to go to Daf Yomi." My father enjoys the delivery of the class by Rabbi Scharf, Mr. Scharf's son.
My father is a holocaust survivor and I don't believe he ever imagined that he would be privileged to see four generations. Thank G-d he has children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who are all very devoted to him. Close article

Rena Burnstein: "My mother was in a large place. There were probably 300 residents and not enough activity. And she was alone all the time. So I looked for a place near me so I could see her often. As soon as I walked into Scharf's Ateret Avot I said this is the place for my mother. Everybody was so lovely and warm.
Everybody knew everybody else. And there were so many activities. I saw this atmosphere immediately because I had visited other places and it wasn't like this.
My mother has been able here, at Scharf's Ateret Avot, to continue her lifestyle, which is one of activism.
She has been written up in a number of newspapers: in Alan Magill's article in The Jewish Press, and, more recently, a full page in the Daily News, with our picture in it.
Alan's article talks about my mother's work on behalf of Jews all over the world, particularly in Israel. Close article

Idy Levy: "My father was a chazzan (cantor) for approximately 40 years in many different shuls all over the country. Here, at Scharf's Ateret Avot, he's given the opportunity to use his craft. People come over to me all the time and tell me, "We heard your father singing today and it was lovely."
The reason we selected Scharf's Ateret Avot is because of the convenience. We live around the corner and it makes fulfilling the mitzvah of Kibud Av V'Aim that much easier." Close article

Zloty Katz: "My parents came to Scharf's Ateret Avot after being exposed to it while visiting friends here. My mother loves to participate in the arts and crafts. She makes beautiful projects for different holidays and seasons. They like all the old movies and the sing-alongs.
The thing they like the most is the company. They've made wonderful friends. And that was very helpful.
What I really like about Scharf's Ateret Avot, is that it is open to the public. Anyone from the neighborhood can walk in to visit, to cheer up the people... to have nachas seeing a place run so well.
It's an upbeat place... it's a sparkling clean place... and they encourage everybody to keep in touch with parents, and all the people here...
It's a very happy, upbeat, beautifully run place." Close article

Aaron Kinderlerer: "A lot of people don't know this about my mother, but she ran facilities in Ohio for senior citizens. I think that this is G-d rewarding her now, being in a place where she is receiving such good care.
Above and beyond everything else, the owners were very caring people.
After seeing other facilities we noticed that Scharf's Ateret Avot had much more staff. They had people to take care of the entertainment needs; they had people to take care of their religious needs, people to take care of the medical needs.
My mother very much enjoys all the children who come to visit... and the different groups that spend time with guests at Ateret Avot that the Scharfs have arranged.
My mother loves all the group sessions. She loves the discussions and she especially enjoys the singing. I didn't know what a wonderful voice she had... and how much she remembered. It was being at Scharf's Ateret Avot that brought this out." Close article
